as others have answered, there's no single answer to it, so it will generally be 'it depends', on factors including security. Out of curiosity: in what capacity are you asking? As a prospective staff, you want to consider carefully whether you could handle a non-family posting and if so for how long/ with what objective (add relevant experience to your CV for a longer term ambition?); what stage is your family at and could your family live without you for some weeks/ months? Note that organisations may have different reasons to call it 'non-family', which may be mainly due to security but also cost (& what education opportunities are there for any kids in the family?). Take at the full picture, discuss it with all stakeholders and then make an informed decision, taking into account short and longer term upsides and downsides. Wishing you all the best!

Usually Organisations look at the security level (unrest but also crime, banditery ... ), access to reliable medical care and easy medvac to reputable medical center, access to school (international school), hardship of the place to live. I hope this helps.
