Dear Morgan

There is not a simple guide as this is a difficult and technical subject. The NSET website at https://nset.org.np (National Society for Earthquake Technology - Nepal) does give some useful information and guidelines but these should be applied only by technically skilled people. Some basic principles apply but they are dependent on the form of construction. Some training like a FEMA course is needed. Qualified personnel are being deployed to Nepal but I appreciate that with the scale of the event you may not be able to access them immediately.

RedR is endeavouring to provide a network of skilled resource to the response. Please do post specific questions to us here on KnowledgePoint with photographs if possible and we will hope to give some guidance through our RedR Experts network.

Regards Harriette
